It Started With an Excel Spreadsheet.

Eventually, that tinkering turned into something I called RDS Estimator.

To be completely honest, it started almost as a joke.

But the more I worked on it, the more I realized that other contractors might actually find something like this useful.

It wasn’t anything revolutionary. It was a spreadsheet designed around the way I worked.

And then I ran into a problem.

I couldn’t figure out how to make the macros work properly when sharing it with other people.

So, rather than spend the time learning Excel inside and out, I figured it might be easier to build an entire website around it.

Looking back, I’m still not entirely sure how I came to that conclusion.

Before building Site Metric Pro, I’d looked into construction management software.

Some of the available platforms were incredibly capable. But for the kind of work I was doing, the pricing and commitment were difficult to justify.

I didn’t want to get locked into a year-long contract.

I didn’t necessarily need every feature the software offered.

And I certainly didn’t want to pay for an entire enterprise-level system when I might only use a fraction of it.

I kept coming back to the same thought:

Why should smaller contractors have to choose between complicated, expensive software and trying to manage everything themselves?

Surely there had to be a better middle ground.

On August 8, 2026, I started turning that Excel estimator into a web application.

I had absolutely no idea what it would eventually become.

At first, the goal was simple: make estimating easier.

But then I realized estimating was only one part of the process.

Once you win a job, you need to manage it. You need to track costs, coordinate the field, understand production, and make sure the numbers still make sense.

So I kept adding things.

Estimating became project management.

Project management led to daily operations.

Then came job costing, bid tracking, proposals, AI-assisted takeoffs, and more.

What started as a spreadsheet was becoming something much bigger.

Today, that little Excel experiment has become Site Metric Pro.

It’s a construction operations platform designed to help contractors better connect the office, the field, and the financial side of their projects.

And the funny part?

I’m still learning.

I’m not someone who spent years working in software development before deciding to build a construction technology company.

I come from the construction side.

I know what it’s like to spend your day in the field, come home, and still have hours of estimating, paperwork, scheduling, and project management waiting for you.

That’s the perspective behind Site Metric Pro.

And it’s the perspective I intend to keep as the platform grows.
